A real syslog server on you Pocket PC! PocketSyslog comes from Adiscon, the developer of WinSyslog, the enhanced syslog server for Windows. Build on this long-term experience, PocketSyslog contains everything that is needed for a reliable, mobile syslog server:

  • receive messages from all syslog enabled devices in the connected networks
  • a real-time, automatically scrolling display of recent events
  • full text of current message always in view
  • rock-solid, reliable core engine backed by 5 years of experience with WinSyslog

Do you think "Why the hell should I use a syslog server on a Pocket PC"? Good question! There are also a number of good reasons:

  • You are a consultant visiting your customer. Even though the customer does not have a syslog server, you can still read all those important status messages the customer's devices report. Imagine how delighted your customer is if you now can fix things within minutes by simply reading what the devices have to tell you!
  • You are a corporate user and need to monitor your systems on a 24 by 7 basis. You are on call, but love to stay at the beach. Now you can. Once an error notification reaches you, you can connect to your corporate network and listen to what is reported via syslog.
  • You are a computer enthusiast. By placing a syslog server on your Pocket PC, you can look like a wizard when you fix all those router and DSL problems at your friends and family. Just place your Pocket PC in their home network and have it listen to what the devices tell you.

What do you need to run PocketSyslog? Not much. Obviously, a network connection is required. This can be for example WLAN or a regular dial-in connection (including VPN). Besides that, an ARM based Pocket PC with 2 MB of free storage space is required. A typical example configuration would be a HP/Compaq iPAQ with a WL110 card.
